Who should not get the flu shot?
Flu vaccines are not recommended for babies under 6 months of age, because their immune systems are too immature for the vaccine to work properly.
Do not get the flu shot if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a previous flu vaccine or to any of its ingredients. If you are moderately or severely ill, with or without a fever, wait until you feel better.
An egg allergy is not a reason to skip your flu shot - people with egg allergies can be safely vaccinated. If you have any concerns, talk to our pharmacist before your appointment.
Why Get the Flu Shot?
The most effective way to decrease complications and reduce the impact of the flu is to get a preventative vaccine shot!
The flu vaccine is updated each year to protect against the strains of influenza expected to be most common. The best time to get vaccinated is early October to mid-November.
Anyone who is in contact with high-risk populations (including health care workers) should get the flu shot. People who are not in a high-risk group but want to avoid the flu can also get vaccinated.
Certain medications (e.g., zanamivir, oseltamivir) are also used in some cases to prevent the flu. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you need one, and which is right for you.
COVID-19 Vaccine
We also offer the COVID-19 vaccine at Baden Village Pharmasave. Staying up to date with your recommended COVID-19 and flu vaccines helps reduce your risk of serious illness, especially for older adults, people with chronic health conditions and anyone in close contact with high-risk individuals.
You can get your COVID-19 vaccine and your flu shot at the same visit - ask our pharmacist if this is right for you. Eligibility for publicly funded COVID-19 vaccines is set by the Ontario government and can change from season to season, so please call us or check online when booking.
Other vaccines
Our pharmacists also administer doctor-ordered vaccines (such as shingles) for a fee. Please note that we do not offer travel vaccinations or travel vaccination consultations.
